Grape Pickers Cottage

Following a substantial renovation, you’ll now find high quality accommodation option set within the historic building that dates back to the 19th century. Boasting original exposed beams and charming slate floors, the Grape Pickers Cottage is open-plan, generously appointed and offers everything you’ll need for a city escape. 

Gone are the straw mattresses and basic amenities, instead expect a luxurious king-size bed, mod-cons and cosy ambience enhanced by your own fireplace always well-stocked and ready to go. And to prepare you for a day of exploring McLaren Vale and / or wine tasting, enjoy a hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs, tomatoes, and toast during your stay. Plus a bottle of local wine and cheese platter on arrival.

We also can cater for dietary needs such as gluten-free or vegan if asked. 

This is as well as tea and Nespresso coffee available to you in the kitchenette.

Adjacent to the Picker’s Cottage is The Cook’s Cottage, so if you’re travelling with another couple, and want to stay close by but in your own space, look no further.

We also welcome your beloved dog (please advise this upon enquiry). 

ABOUT THE COTTAGES - A TRUE TASTE OF HISTORY

We are fascinated by Australia’s architectural heritage, so were really pleased when we discovered the derelict stables and cottages in Tatachilla, McLaren Vale just ripe for restoration, loving care and attention. We have restored the whole property to keep its original features but add modern conveniences and comfort. The extensive gardens and orchard are an ongoing project that offer beautiful spaces to sit and relax.

We were pleased to be approached by Restoration Australia, who wanted to document the restoration and unearth some of its history. The resulting episode of Restoration Australia, Series 2 Episode 5 shows not only the progress of the transformation but also our romantic ideals when it comes to preserving old buildings and their history.

Although semi-retired we still pursue our passion for maths education and maintain our award-winning business Natural Maths. It surprises us every time we think about it that we have written more than eighty books on the subject and still find more to write.

Finally, we feel really honoured to be able to share our cottages with our guests and enjoy meeting and chatting to them as well as providing them with a great staycation.
